6th International Colloquium on Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Deep Drilling Systems
Lavi organized the 6th International Colloquium on Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Deep Drilling Systems.
Held for the first time in Brazil, the event was chaired by professors Thiago Ritto and Daniel Castello, from the Mechanical Engineering Program of UFRJ, and by professors Balakumar Balachandran (University of Maryland, USA); Emmanuel Detournay (University of Minnesota, USA); and Nathan van de Wouw (Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands).
There were 18 presentations by invited researchers, a panel discussion on the challenges in deep drilling dynamics research, and a technical visit to the Acoustics and Vibrations Laboratory (LAVI).
The presentations highlighted that to meet the growing demands in drilling practices, new advances require collaborative efforts in diverse research areas, including computational sciences, dynamical systems, nonlinear structural vibrations, geomechanics, drilling technology, and control theory.
The event was promoted by the Brazilian Association of Mechanical Engineering and Sciences (ABCM) and had the sponsorship and support of the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and the companies Tomax, SLB, Halliburton, and ExxonMobil.
